NEW
ALCOHOL SOFTWARE PROGRAM IMPROVES HOW DUI/DWI
AND OTHER ALCOHOL RELATED CASES ARE HANDLED IN
THE COURTROOM
ATLANTA, Georgia – Attorneys and forensic
toxicologists now have access to software that
can show, with the highest degree of accuracy,
the level of alcohol impairment at the time an
individual was driving in DUI/DWI cases since
BAC Tracker, a new computer alcohol
extrapolation program, launched its software in
May 2007.
BAC
Tracker is capable of running all parameters of
a DUI/DWI episode against six different formulae
published in scientific journals to provide the
most comprehensive estimation of whether the
level of alcohol impairment was above the legal
level of intoxication at the time of driving.
Many assumptions are typically made when
estimating the level of alcohol intoxication
which are eliminated with the use of BAC
Tracker. The software is able to graphically
demonstrate variation inherent in the different
formulae published to estimate levels of alcohol
in the blood. The free range of data
manipulation in the software further arms the
user with the ability to relay the results of
particular relevance in an understandable format
to juries, judges, attorneys, and forensic
experts in the courtroom.
“BAC
Tracker provides new life to an otherwise
mundane procedure,” says Dr. Thomas Kupiec,
Chief Executive Officer, Analytical Research
Laboratories, Oklahoma. “Our laboratory has
utilized similar programs in the past . . . but
this program incorporates quite a few innovative
ideas and allows greater control in determining
the parameters utilized . . . a valuable asset.”
Since the software’s launch just a few months
ago in May, Henry Swofford, Creator and Managing
Partner of BAC Tracker, has been sought after to
provide presentations and training at seminars
around the country. “After seeing a
demonstration,” says Patrick Barone, a Michigan
attorney specializing in DUI/DWI, “I ordered the
BAC Tracker software and can confidently state
that it accomplishes tasks extraordinarily well
and with great ease.”
Backed with peer reviewed publications of the
formulae incorporated into the software, BAC
Tracker offers the user a high degree of
confidence in the results. “Our software
provides efficient and accurate calculations in
a fraction of the time required to calculate
each individual formula,” says Swofford. “The
bibliography we provide in the user manual and
publish on our website allows all formulae to be
cross referenced and provides the credibility
for the results to be admissible in court.”
“What’s really great,” says Dr. Michael Corbett,
a consulting forensic toxicologist in Nebraska,
“is the confidence level in the final result . .
. facilitating the presentation of results to
the judge and jury, especially when it comes to
explaining the origin and degree of uncertainty
attendant to such calculations.” In fact, while
hesitant in the past, Dr. Corbett describes how
he is now able to provide expert opinions of
alcohol during complicated scenarios; “BAC
Tracker readily handles complicated calculations
that I wouldn’t even consider attempting to do
by hand . . . I think expert witnesses will find
BAC Tracker to be very useful.”
“I
am proud of this product because of the way it
can improve the presentation of courtroom
evidence in DUI/DWI and other alcohol related
cases,” says Swofford. “The use of this
software by prosecuting attorneys, defense
attorneys, and expert witnesses will provide
juries with a better understanding of the
variations present in the estimation of blood
alcohol concentration.”
BAC
Tracker is a software program designed for
multi-model extrapolation of blood alcohol
concentration. Registered users include
forensic laboratories, toxicologists, attorneys,
and educational institutions across the nation.
