Mozayani, Pharm D., Ph.D., D-ABFT
Dr. Mozayani has received a Doctorate of
Pharmacy Degree from University of Tehran in
Iran and a Doctorate of Philosophy Degree in
Pharmaceutical Sciences/ Toxicology from the
Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Alberta
in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She is also board
certified as a Forensic Toxicologist by the
American Board of Forensic Toxicology (D-ABFT).
Dr. Mozayani is the Laboratory Director and the
Chief Toxicologist for the Harris County Medical
Examiner’s Office (HCME) in Houston, Texas since
July 1996. Under her direction the HCME Crime
Laboratory achieved the accreditation by
American Crime Laboratory Directors-Laboratory
Accreditation Board (ASCLD-LAB) and American
Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT).
Prior to this position, she was the Chief
Toxicologist for the District of Columbia at the
Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Dr.
Mozayani is Assistant Clinical Professor in the
Department of Medicine at the University of
Texas, an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the
Department of Pharmacy at Texas Southern
University, a Clinical Assistant Professor in
the Department of Pathology at Baylor College of
Medicine, Houston, Texas and an Adjunct
Assistant Professor in the Department of
Pathology at University of Texas Medical Branch,
Galveston.
Dr. Mozayani has published and presented
numerous articles related to forensic toxicology
(cocaine, marijuana, amphetamines, drug testings
in hair, inhalants, and opiates, GHB, alcohol,
and several prescription drugs). She is also
editor of the book “ Drug-Facilitated Sexual
Assault, A Forensic Handbook”, “Handbook of Drug
Interaction-A Clinical and Forensic Guide” and “
The Forensic Laboratory Handbook”. She was also
the first US Editor of the journal of “ Forensic
Science, Medicine and Pathology”. Dr. Mozayani
is a member of the American Society of Crime
Laboratory Director and Society of Forensic
Toxicologist. She is also an active fellow of
the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, a
previous board member of the Society of Forensic
Toxicologists, the American Society of Crime
Laboratory Directors and a delegate member of
the American Society of Crime Laboratory
Directors-Laboratory Accreditation Board. She is
also a member of the Canadian Society of
Forensic Sciences, the International Association
of Forensic Toxicologists, the Southwestern
Association of Toxicologists and the Society of
Hair Testing.
Dr. Mozayani is an Assessor for Standards
Council of Canada, the National Laboratory
Certification Program, the American Crime
Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation
Program,) American Board of Forensic
Toxicologists, the College of American
Pathologists (Forensic Urine Drug Testing) and
National Forensic Science Technology Center. She
also serves as a consultant in toxicology to
government and private industry and has been
qualified as an expert witness in forensic
toxicology and pharmacology in the states of
Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Oklahoma, Florida,
Kansas, California, Idaho, Montana,
Pennsylvania, the Federal Court in Massachusetts
and the numerous Military Courts of the United
States.
